I'm often asked how I define Instagram success. Well actually, I consider several metrics when determining the success of a campaign.

And I'm going to list the important ones here. :)

So without further ado, here are 10 easy ways to monitor the most important metrics on Instagram.

1. Likes

instagram-marketingLikes are the most obvious metric -- since the number of Likes a post gets shows how much your fans enjoyed the content.

And it's easy to count Likes!

2. Comments

Watch the posts that get the most comments.

They're probably the kinds of photos you should try to post more of.

3. Followers

You should steadily get more Instagram followers on your account.

On Instagram, if you're not growing, you're dying.

So take note of how many followers you have today.

Then check again next week to see if your following is growing or shrinking.

4. Engagement

To know what percentage of followers engage with your Instagram posts -- divide the number of Likes & comments by your follower count.

For the example below, I divided the number of Likes + comments (77 + 1) by the fan count on the Post Planner page (2,500).

Engagement on this post was just over 3%!

5. Clicks

Are people clicking through the link on your Instagram page once they find you?

I use a custom shortened URL on my profile to track this critical Instagram metric. You can also track clicks in Google Analytics.

Create a landing page for your Instagram clicks & track the conversions there.

6. Mentions

Are people talking about you or your businesses on Instagram?

Search for different Instagram hashtags to find out.

Both industry-related & exact-match hashtags can reveal a lot about what people are saying about you online.

7. Photos

Are you tracking which of your posts are performing best on Instagram?

It's easy to find out.

Use a tool like Iconosquare to find the top-performing images based on the number of comments & Likes.

8. Times

I use 2 tools to find the best times to post on Instagram for my particular followers:

Every audience is different. But you can use these methods to discover when your fans consume the most content.

9. Followers

Know which followers engage the most with your content?

Find out!.... and then watch these followers & interact with them to turn them into brand ambassadors.

Remember: every time you mention or reach out to them, you make them feel important.

10. Sales

Do your followers on Instagram ever buy anything from you?

That's usually the first question on any businessperson's mind when they consider launching an Instagram page.

It's easy to find out if your Instagram followers do business with your company. Create a coupon unique to Instagram & track how many coupons get redeemed.
