Step 6

How to Plan Your Content

Before you begin to create or share content, you need to have a plan in place. This plan becomes your roadmap to content marketing success.

Your first step to planning your content is to understand who your audience is.

Who's your typical reader? What do they look like, sound like, what are their  their demographics, interests, tastes?

Your next step is to know what type of content you'll share. Everyone has different interests and your audience is no different.

It’s up to you to understand their specific needs. Then tailor your content with them in mind.

Now it's time to articulate your brand values. What your brand’s strengths, weaknesses, and positions on issues?

Determine how your content will relay that to your audience.

Your next to last step is getting your content in front of your audience. Look to your analytics to see when they're online.

You can use a variety of analytics tools from Facebook Insights to Twitter Analytics. When are the peak times they're interacting with you currently?

Your last step is to take those times and get your content into an automated system.

Take advantage of automation tools to automate a mix of different content types. Make sure your posts are evenly spaced out and varied.

Post Planner and Tailwind are fantastic tools for this. Post Planner lets you create a posting schedule that restricts some time slots to certain types of content, such as images, links, and text. So even if you add 10 quote images to the queue at the same time, they will still get evenly spaced out. This saves a lot of time and effort.

Tailwind lets you schedule your Pinterest pins so you never miss a beat. Keep your great content in front of the right audience.
